So I've been thinking about a new motor for the truck and was wandering what i could do with a motor that ran only E85 it is about $.90 cheaper a gallon. I want to build a good torque down low but nothing carzy not going racing or any thing I was also wandering about the adaptation of EEC-IV out of a fox body mustang. I have seen several articles about different motors that are over 400hp and get 25-30mpg just wandering if getting around 20 would be possible if you take full advantage of octane rating ie high compression and advanced timing. Aslo is there a distributor that has the correct TFI moduel for EEC-IV mabey something off the correct era 460? I know I will have to have the computer changed due to gas/air mix being 14.7:1 and E85 being 9 something to one. Any one out there know EEC-IV well just looking for some input from some one who knows more than I do.

I've researched this myself, and from what I've read, E85 is not a good (read: cheaper) alternative to gas. As you noticed, the mixture has to be richer, and you get fewer units of energy per unit burned with alcohol. In the end, you burn more fuel to go the same distance. To save money, it's not worth it, FWIW.
I did decide that it would be a good way to build a high compression motor and run it for cheap, as E85 is way cheaper than race gas, yet has an octane of 102-105. So, if not for everyday street use, I'd say go for it.
Sorry, not intimate with the EEC4, just thought I'd share my conclusions on the alkee-hall.
E85 is a great alternative to gas just not in a flex fuel vehicle you have to build an E85 only motor the ones that run on both gas and E85 are not using any of the benifits of alcohol they are just wasting it, by getting the compression and timing up you can build a very efficent motor. I have read many articles on this subject the one that had me the most interested was in Car and Driver in 1997 where Ford built a 605hp mustang with a 4.6L stroked to 5.0L and it got 34mpg using EEC-V. I didn't post this on the alternative fuels board because it seems to just turn into a debate saying that E85 sucks and I KNOW IT DOESN'T you just have to take advantage of its increased octane and even if I don't see any MPG increase I can make more power and send my money to Iowa and Nebraska instead of Iran and that is OK buy me.
