1963 Ford Ton Truck

My dad is planning on building his truck, which is a 1963 Ford truck that is a ton truck. Dad is going to use it to haul wood. The original motor (292) is worth nothing sincce the block is cracked along with the heads. Would just like to know what other motors that are as powerful or more powerful that would bolt up to the bellhousing and such. Dad said a 360, 390, or a 352 would fit with a little modifications, is this true? Out of these three which of the three are the best? What motor is the best that will fit out of all Ford engines, that will fit without modifications? I'm really interested in knowing to try and help pops' out. What is the best thing to do in this situation? Would appreciate any information available.

No engine other than the 292 is going to
be an east swap candidate, as the bellhousing
makes up part of the mounting system, yeah, you
can get cross members for the engine and tranny,
but they require some serious surgery to the
present mount for the bellhousing, as in it'll
have to be removed. Then theres the problem with
the oil pan on the swapped in engine, if you look
closely, the 292 has a rear sump oil pan, where
all the swap motors will have a front sump, and
guess what happens the first big bump...
So for keeping to the KISS principle, a 292
is your best bet...
