272 or 312
this morning when i started going over everything i noticed the heads are ECZ-C heads. aren't these heads 272 heads from '56?
I can't find documentation on the block which is marked ECZ-6015-A
can anyone help me out there?
thanks,

If you have the heads off, measure the bore. 272 has a standard bore of 3.625 inches and 312 is 3.80 inches
My data book lists 1956 and 57 312 block casting number as ECZ 6015. The 272 is ECG 6015 all years.
Hope this helps.

That helps alot!
I measured the bore and it is a 312.
I have the book by James Eikman and I've used it for info, but it feels kind of vague. I have a mystery block in my truck it is marked EDB-6015-E And I thought it was a 272 also, but I don't know anymore.
What other things should I be using for resources?

Buy the Ultimate American V8 Data book from the online store at this site and you might want to subscribe to the Y Block Magazine. You can find the address at http://ford-y-block.com which is also a good source for info. I am pretty sure the EDB is a 292 but I am not where my books are located right now.
If the main caps have ECZ on them it is a 312..anything else..it is a 292.. Bore size does not count..since a lot of 292's were bored out as they wore out !!!
If you look at the back of the crankshaft..on a 312 crank..there will be a notch on one side and a flat spot on the other with a "dot" in the center.. That's a 312.! All ECZ - A blocks are 292's. 99 out of a hundred ECZ - B blocks are 292's..and very few ECZ- C blocks are 292's. The ECZ-C heads are mostly 292's...and the ECZ-G heads are the best to use..for a 312.. I say you have a 292..

Forgot to mention..the 6015 in the casting only stands for "block"...as in "engine block"..it is on all the engines..
The only way to tell externally is the crank flange.
Otherwise its pull the pan and ID the mains caps.
