302 woes
am about to install an older 302 (77 heads and 80 block i believe) and i found one lifter that the retainer had popped out of found all the pieces but was wondering if i can put it back together or will a lifter from my 89 302 be the same and put that one in?

I gather this is a "budget" job. In general flat tappet lifters and the cam become a matched pair once they are broken in and you cannot replace them without applying assembly lube and going through the breakin again. Well you can do it, but it's very likely the replacement lifter will produce excessive wear on the cam lobe and it'll be junk in a short period of time. I'd suggest you use the original lifter, even if you have to use some internal parts from another to make it complete.
