e4od no go

while driving I-95 at 65 mph the e4od in my 91 f350 diesel stopped working without any warning. No noise , vibration or anything. there is no response in any gear. I have had no previous problems with it. The tranny was rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago. Any ideas?????Fluid level and condition seem finr.

Probably sheared the pump shaft.

Quick check: Disconnect one of the cooler lines and start the engine. If there's little to no flow, the pump ain't working anymore.

Yes the pump shaft is the most likely. The reason I asked 2wd or 4x4 is that another possibility is the transfer case is neutralizing.

I disconnected the rear driveshaft, put in 4wheel and turned the rear shaft. the front shaft turned with it so the transfer case is ok I believe. thanks for the info!!!

The pump should be able to shoot the fluid several feet from the cooler line.

Internally, line pressure should be around 55-65 psi at the LINE tap. You'll need the appropriate gauge and to attach it at the correct port.

At the cooler return line, you should get about 1 quart of fluid flow per minute. If you're getting that, the pump is at least working some although it may not be able to develop (or maintain) adequate line pressure to operate the hydraulics.

We'll assume you've verified the fluid level.

That doesn't mean anything. The 4wd engagement has nothing to do with the input/planetary. maybe try 4x4 low. And check the oil.

Oil level and condition is good. pumps a quart in 30 to 45 seconds but doesnt seem to have much pressure. Got aprice from a reputable shop of $1800.00 to remove upgrade and reinstall and will have it done two days after it is delivered. I guess I will go with that. Thanks again for your advice.
