Ya that should work. Anything before the exhaust gas gets to the turbo should work, after the turbo is a no-no for the EGT probe

Yes, most folks are installing the probe PRE-turbo in the up-pipe in the "flat spot" on the driver's side.
Having both gauges was a way of showing the difference in EGT readings and why PRE-turbo was favored over POST-turbo installation.
