Gas is pushing $4.00 a gallon and I throw oil away every day without fail.
This has nothing to do with putting a key in my ignition. So how do I do it?
I throw all sorts of oil away on a daily basis as a tool and die maker. Water soluble oil, mobil cutting oil, smelly oil (hangsterfers), 68 weight way oil, what have you...
I also throw away plastics, there may be recycling in most of the free world, but that **** ain't free, and some of us have a hard time paying our bills...
Pawpaw hit the nail on the head.
Plastic.
Where I live only one form of plastic is recycled... 1gal milk jugs.
Cripes, the average person can only throw all the other plastics in their trash [or the side of the road], using up valuable landfill space.
I wish to h*** that they did UP here, but they don't, forcing me to throw away oil. Something doesn't compute here. So I get hammered at the pump.
On a similar note, I got passed on a 2 lane road by a big chevy truck, caught up with him 4 miles down the road at a light [which I never touched my brakes for] watched him hurry to the next light [which, again, I never touched my brakes for] jackrabbit out from their only to pull into the gas station at the third light [which I never touched my brakes for] So who won?
Many parts stores (Advance, Autozone), oil change places (Valvoline, Pennzoil) and other oil retailers will accept used oil in limited amounts for recycling. You may have to hunt around some to find a place that will accept your used oil, but is sure beats filling landfills or roadsides with the stuff. If you can't find a place in Ispeming, try Marquette.
I return my waste oil to where I bought it... Walmart. Using their container to return it. Now what they do with the plastic is anybody's guess. I've taken to buying it in the 5qt. containers since my truck uses some oil. If it didn't use oil I would be using synthetics instead.
I take it Mi66 that you have been UP here a time or two.
Now try shooting for 25mpg in this country in your Ranger. I'm trying to do that since I've been averaging 21.5. Heck even 23mpg adds up over time. A big gob of 4x4 iron doesn't help. The flipside is that it gets me home in the winter.
