High Pressure Pump Coupling
They also claim that changing the oil at 3000 miles goes against the manual's recommendation of changing every 7500 milles, and that it is actually harmful to stray from every guideline in the manual.
The dealership asserted that the only repairs they do on Ford vehicles, are repairs on modified vehicles. They claim they have not yet had any engine-related repairs on the 6.0 that were the result of a factory problem.
I also have a dual exhaust that another dealer installed to lower my EGT's when towing. I've been monitoring my oil with analysis, and it has been great over the past 50K miles. Also, the EGT gauge was equivalent to a tuner/chip, as far as Ford was concerned, necessitating warranty denial.
They are horrified at the bypassd oil filter, and coolant filter. They insisted these things were all contributing to this coupling failure.
The bottom line is they are voiding my extended warranty (that they sold me in the first place-so they knew of the modifications beforehand). They want about $1300 to replace the $75 coupling.
Does anyone know of any mod-friendly dealerships in Colorado? You can PM me if you want to keep it private. I really don't believe half of what this dealer says, and they are very rude and pompous. They told me to take my business elsewhere, and that people who modify their vehicles in ANY way, are just causing dealerships to get blacklisted by Ford.
I know people whine about warranty denials all the time, but I take great care of my truck and want it to last. I wouldn't mind paying for the repair if I didn't spend the $4K on the extended warranty, from a dealer that let me do these mods in the first place.
This dealership also insisted that their diesel techs can lose their certification status if they even touch such a vehicle that shows disrespect to Ford via owner chabges.
Does this sound right to anyone? Especially you mechanics...
Is this coupler the same as HPOP? What might cause this problem? It's been cranking longer and longer until it completely stopped firing. Average crank time prior to the complete failure was about 20 seconds (hot or cold), and started doing this about 1 year ago at about 20K miles.

If that fitting gets loose it will cause the trouble you described with your 6.0.
You've already got the 'get a new service department' in the works.
I'm printing out the HPOP/ICP stuff from Kepler4 and will read it then give it to my new dealer (just in case), who is a 4.5 hour round trip.
I hope the truck starts on Thursday and makes it over the mountain passes...
I guess this is just one of the drawbacks of living in out-of-the-way places.
