Squeak i reverse only
1988 F-150 4x4. Auto, 4.9l. Manual hubs
Last week I noticed a very pronounced "squeak" when I back up. It is a high-low repeating noise, and it is only when the truck is moving. It increases speed as the truck increases speed, and stops when the truck stops.
I put the rear end on the floor jack and put the truck in reverse, and I didn't hear it. I put the front end on jack stands and tried it again. No noise. But when the truck is on the road and I back up, the noise is there... Apparently, it is only when there is a load on it.
Before I go and reinvent (or tear apart) all the wheels, does anyone have any thoughts as to what I should be looking for? It sounds like it's coming out of the back....
Thanks!
Any other thoughts? I'm pretty sure that it's coming from the rear.... A friend of mine listened to it when I was backing up today (with the new universals), and mentioned that it sounded like a bearing in the rear-right. I've not heard a bearing squeak, or only in reverse....
I'm stumped...
