Do u-joints cause squeaking in reverse?
I have a 2003 3.0 L auto 2wd Ranger and a few weeks ago I noticed I funny squeak while backing into my parking space. It was only making this squeak at lower speeds while in reverse. Now it seems to make chirping noises every so often when on the highway and the odd little vibration. I was looking under the truck while having someone back up and I think it's coming from the front u-joint just behind the transmission. Anyone ever had their u-joints sqeak before? I've had them clunk into gear on other vehicles but I don't get any clunking. Appreciate all the ideas/suggestions.

I have had that happen, in forward as well. Low speed from a stop- chirp, chirp, chirp increasing in speed as vehicle picks up speed. May have a hollow sorta ringy type sound with it or sorta sound higher pitch and creaky, and rythmic. Usually dry U-joints. If they were worn out and loose, you would get the clunk sound.
