Electrical/Start Problem

OK...Since the Search function is not working...??? By no means a rookie at this..heh I will have to describe the actual problem and hope someone else has exp. the same thing..=) TIA for any help resolving the issue.

Battery is GOOD
Cables are GOOD/Clean, etc
Alt is Charging
Makes no Clicking noise under the HOOD

Here is what it DOES do though:

Intermittently, after the car is shut off and you remove the Key. Once you open the drivers door a somewhat loud clicking noise comes from behind the dash..?? Can't see or find the culprite before it stops.

I turned the ign. on and off a few times...Then Moved the Shift lever through a few cycles and put it in park. This seemed to stop the clicking noise.

Come back to the car and the clicking noise is at it again and now the battery is about dead.

So get the battery back up and get the car to start. Clicking stops...

Verify that the alt is working while the car is running. NO CE lights on the dash at all. Let it run for a bit to pump that batt back up.

Shut it down and get NO CLICKING sound this time.

Attempt to start the car and it won't even crank the eng. Then BANG is cranks over vigorously and fires.

Sooooo...lmao Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Are your interior light working normally?
If you unhook your rear wiper from the rubber stopper, does the wiper get forced down more?

Sounds exactly like what my 99 Expy is doing. It's most likely another GEM issue. Does your windshiend leak?

GEM?? Is what, with some kind of exactness??

Not to my knowledge. Have never noticed anything to suggest a leaky windshield.

Thanks for the replies...=)

The GEM is the GEneric Electronic Module. It's located on the back of the fuse box--you can't really get to it without taking the fuse box out. The issue is it gets wet from the leaking windshield issue, and it causes circuits that aren't supposed to be completed, completed. This causes a wide range of problems, from the door locks not working, wipers not working, running lights to stay on all the time, and your blower to stay on even with the truck off and the key removed. The only fix, so far as I know, is fix the leak and replace the GEM, which has to be done at the dealer because they have to program the new one with your specific options for your truck. I have heard you can take the GEM off and dry it out, the drill a drain hole in it and it fixes it, but haven't tried it myself. Try searching for GEM issues and you should find a wealth of info, if the search function works today, that is.

Much welcome The search function is still down. But if you go to ask.com and input GEM problem and this site, you might be able to find some info.
