I just did 450 miles yesterday, all highway, steady cruise control at 77-78 mph virtually all the way ther eand back. I was towing nothing, just hauling my own plump rear end. Hand calculated mileage, running B20 with a small dose of Opti-Lube-X....
.... 16.5 mpg
Given that I know I gain 1-2 mpg at 70 versus 78, and that the B20 typically costs me about 1-1.5 mpg, I feel pretty good about the 16.5 and can tell that the truck is running fine right now. I also know that I can't handle 450 miles today as well as I could 25 years ago!

I hear you on that! On our last camping trip to South Dakota I turned on the GPS and we had 938 miles to get home pullin our 5th wheel camper. I forced myself not to look at the odometer or "miles to go" reading on the GPS. Everytime I looked it felt like I went 100 miles, but it was more like 20.....
man, that was a long trip.......... I changed over from dippin' Skoal to Motrin.
1/2 way home I switched to chewing them both.........

My last trip to Alaska I did by myself. It was my 20th time, but the only one by myself. Because of the route I took from Charlotte to get there it was nearly 5000 miles. I spent all 6 nights in the truck. By the time I arrived in Fairbanks I was nearly dead. I was so weak I could only eat yogurt for the first 2 days. That is something I will never do again. I used to be able to do 1000 miles a day with no problem at all, but age has sure caught up with me bigtime.
6,000 miles, now that is a road trip! I think my kids would throw a Mutiny by day 3 ..... Ussually at the end of day 2 I get a happy meal in the back of the head from my youngest strapped in the car seat.....

After day 3 I
I've done the same trip many times with wife and kids, 4 times in a motor home, twice in that car that you see in my signature back when it was still a street car and many times in either a Buick or a truck of one kind of another. But when I had the family with me we always stayed in motels. That what I did last time was really kind of crazy. Coming back down that year I did stay in motels 3 of the nights and let me tell you it makes the trip a whole lot easier, but a little more expensive.
Well i havent checked mine lately so dont know if much has changed with the new diesel fuel, but i usaully get 18-18.5 with mostly highway trips and some city. On all city i think it drops to 15 or less. On very long trip with empty truck i can just get 20- 20.5 if all is perfect, 65mph, no wind and all. But its normally about 18 becasue of my driving pattern. The milage seems to drop when pulling my 17ft Boston Whaler which is not really heavy. Increasing my speed really causes it to drop.
Now this year as i get into hunting season in October i will have a chance to do some test. I have an exact same trip i do many times so im going to try some fuel additives, different speeds etc and get some more figures.
I have 02 super cab, long bed,4x4,6 speed, stock truck. Hand figured the mpg.
