i was wondering if u can swap out the axle shafts and 12in brakes with 5 on 4.5 lug pattern?i dont want the 8 lugs.or does anyone make adapters for 8 to 5 lug?
Are you swapping into a Jeep? I don't think they used lockout hubs on a D44 axle in that bolt pattern. They did use them with the 5x5.5" pattern that is the same as the Ford Chevy and Dodge truck patterns.
The lockout hubs for the D44 axle are about 4" across, so not enough meat to have lugs in a 4.5" circle.
What axle are you working with to start?
the axle is out of a 78 f250,and it has manuel locking hubs,12in brakes and 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern. i know i could swap in the f150 brake for 5.5.5 but i want the 12 rotor not 11.im just doing some info before i do a sas on my 99 ranger.
Why would you want to weaken the axle that much anyways? A larger diameter bolt pattern is much stronger than a smaller one, regardless of the number of lugs. And unless you are running 16" or larger wheels on the Ranger, 12" brakes won't fit.
The best thing would be to stick with the eight lugs, and then you can use the big brakes, have the wheels to clear them, and have the strength to control the larger tires.
Otherwise, just use a D35 out of a Cherokee or something.
