I would rather receive rep because it is connected to a post that touched someone somehow, rather than because it was, say, Tuesday, or something like that. I think it only cheapens the system if you haven't earned it somehow.

Well said Lizzie Lu, I would much rather receive a rep after I had spent 20 mins researching a technical question. Although there are times when repping is deserved for just chimming in too.

Thats exactly what i was trying to say. I like the way you said it "cheapens the system" i was looking for that word.
I guess my problem is that it almost seems to be a popularity contest. . . and maybe thats not the correct analogy. But all the sudden everybody jumped on the rep wagon and half the posts I see say, "Reps sent." There is nothing wrong with a little rewards program even if its just little green squares however, if I knew how to send them(well I think I do now after this post) I would just send them whenever I deem it necessary, but I'm not going to post that I sent them. Once again I'm not trying to be negative here, I just don't want our goal to become "who can have the most green squares."
