replacing timing cover, gasket problem

I would leave it alone. Just clean it and be careful to get it in the groove in the bottom of the timing cover when you reassemble. I definitely would not cut or try to cut it. Does the rubber still seem soft and pliable, or is it hard and compressed?

broken oil pan gasket, adding timing chain
The oil pan gasket broke on the front of the oil pan, where there is no metal. Can I use gasket sealer on the oil pan. Or will i have to add a new oil pan gasket?
