Trans coolers

Just wondering what coolers folks are running, if you think it was worth the $ spent, etc. I see etrailer.com has some good prices on coolers, but I'd rather spend more money for a cooler that will get the job done. Also I believe my early 99 has an external trans cooler stock- would I want to replace this or add to it?

Normally the best bang for the buck is to find a trans cooler off a 6.0L truck. Used they are cheap, and you can even find them NIB for a good price too. Provides all the cooling you'll ever need.

6.0 Cooler. Spent about $150 for it in all. Got it off Ebay.

Another 6.0 cooler here, another E-bay deal for about $120.

I did the True cool max 4739 from Diesel Site linky

It was $120 and you run it in series with your stock cooler.

I posted a while back that the true cool brought my temps down while plowing from 220° @ 0° ambient temp to never above 140° at 30° ambient temp. When plowing there is no air flow and the TC is never locked so I thought that was a huge test. If you want even more cooling you can stack a 6.0 cooler or the V 10 cooler with a True Cool.

Does anyone remember if the early 99 has the external cooler or the in-rad cooler? If it's external I assume I'll just replace it with a 6.blow cooler.. if it's in the rad I'm guessing I'll have to plug it off somehow?

My early 99 had it in the radiator. I just pluged the two tubes and put in a True Cool. I didn't get a big enough one so i am buying another one in two weeks.

6.0 cooler here as well. If it goes through your radiator too, come of the radiator into the next cooler then back to the tranny. Keep it in series. No plugging is necessary.

Depends on if the 99 has had the rad core replaced. If it is original, there will be only and external cooler. I went with the 4739 as well. This was before the knowledge of the 6.0 cooler. If I was doing again, I'd go 6.0 cooler by itself.

One of the great thing about the 6.0 cooler is it is a direct factory bolt in, and it also goes between the CAC and the radiator so there is no effect on AC performance. The bad thing is that it is so popular that it is hard to find a good price on them.
