V10 Max Pulling Weight

Looking for some answers, I own a 2003 F350 4X4 Crew cab, single rear wheel (not a dually) V10 with 3.73 rear end. I pull a fifthwheel camper (keystone challenger that is approx. 34' long) which fully loaded probably weighs between 11000 - 11500lbs. I feel the truck pulls this camper fine as is, but looking to install a hitch on the rear of the camper to pull a single jetski which fully loaded may weigh as much as 1000 lbs. My owners manual says the truck is only rated to pull around 10,000lbs, and im guessing my combined pulling weight will be around 12,500 lbs. I'm just asking if anyone has experienced pulling this kind of weight with a truck set up like mine, or just good advise, I do not want to damage my truck. Any feed back will be appreciated, thanks

What does your owners manual say you can tow if you had 4.11 or 4.30 gears? (SRW)
Everything else on your truck will be the same (breaks, axels, suspension, etc).
Overloading your drivetrain, especially your 4R100 tranny, would not be too good. Your 2V V10 can handle it, but would be happier with a gear change too.

According to this info (see link)...you are rated to tow 10,300 lbs...with the 3.73 gears. If you re-gear your SD with the popular 4.30's...then you would be rated to tow 13,300 lbs.

TRAILER TOWING

If you tow a lot, then that is what I recommend. If not...you will be straining the drive-train...both engine and tranny. IMHO...I would not exceed the maximum.

Good luck...

A lot of fifth wheel manufacturers will void warranty and advise against mounting hitches to the rear of their products. Even if the hitch is to used to haul a bike rack w/pedal bikes. Might want to check with manufacturer about frame strengths.

With your overall length (truck+fifthwheel+jet ski trlr) you might be running into DOT length problems. Do you have brakes on the jet ski trailer? Plus you may need a Class A CDL for pulling 2 trailers at the same time.

Good luck.

Try this as well

Here's a suggestion. Take your rig to either a truck stop with scales or a feed & fertilizer dealer...someplace with a reliable scale.

Weigh your trailer to be sure what you're dealing with before you even bother yourself with the second trailer idea.

Reason being, maybe you're way over already, maybe you're way under, you don't know until you scale it. It doesn't cost much. And once you know, you know! (keep a copy of the scale ticket with your registration for future reference, too)
