302 heads on 289
I just recently traded a '79 F-150 2wd with 302 for a '69 F-100 with a 289 bored 60 over. It has a set of stock 302 heads on it. Is this a advantage or disadvantage? My freind said 302's had lower compression than 289's but he also said 302 heads would have bigger valves. Does he know what he's talking about? I would think they would be an advantage. I'm in the process of getting ready to rebuild it. What are your suggestions about this??
Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff - According to Pat Ganahls' book, Ford Performance. There is almost no difference between the 302 and 289 heads. NO advantages. I have a copy of a good book on rebuilding Ford small blocks, but I loaned it to a friend. The title is How to Rebuild your Ford Small Block but I do not remember who wrote it. The 302 is a good simple engine with lots of aftermarket parts and websites devoted to passing on helpful information. Good luck.
