Beefing a 302

I have a 76 Bronco with an 80 T-bird 302.It has low miles but needs a rear main and a head gasket.I have a windor that was given to me and was considering putting the heads on the 302 to give it some extra power. The Bronco is stock and uncut so I have to be careful about engine height.I would be greatful for any sugestions or opinions. Thanks!!

Depends on the year model of the Windsor (I assume it is a 351) whether the head swap will make a difference. The best 351W heads come off a '69/'70 year models. As the years progressed, the more the 351 and 302 heads became the same.. I forget the exact year and don't have that book with me, when the became exactly the same.. The earlier models will improve breathing as the valves are somewhat larger. What you will need is a head bolt kit as 351Ws used a larger bolt and they are available. There is no difference in the hieghth of the heads so that won't cause you a problem.. I admit I haven't done this swap but have friends that did and it worked out like they wanted. I just put the entire engine in my truck. Aftermarket heads would be better, but what you got is free and the aftermarket sure aren't.

If you list the year model of the Windsor, someone will know the year the 302/351 became the same head (at least valve wise) or I can find my book and let you know..
