Looking for some exhaust tips

I am looking to modify my exhaust system myself and I am in need of a little coaching if at all possible. Vehicle: 99 xlt 4.0L Supercab. I still have the stock exhaust. What I am looking to do is to keep the single exhaust, put a cherry bomb glass pack on it. The system is
2-1/4" I know I will need a new flange gasket, exhaust pipe, clamps, and a tail pipe. Question 1- Am I missing anything other than proper tools? Question 2- Would I be better off having the system welded together? Rather than clamping it. Question 3- If the system is 2-1/4" O.D. on the exhaust and tail pipe, what size I.D. for the muffler 2-1/2"? or go opposite to 2" O.D> and fit it inside the exhaust and tail pipes?
if I am clamping the system, and 2-1/4" I.D. if welding? I want to make sure I do this correctly as to not have leaks. All input is welcomed. Thanks!

Nothing beats a welded exhaust system and a set of super 40's flowmasters would sound nice on that 4.0.

There is actually nothing wrong with clamping the system either, especially if you do not have a welder and looking to do it yourself. With aluminized tubing a coating gets burned off letting it rust at the welds. This being said I still prefer welding over clamping with custom exhaust. But nothing wrong with clamping it

Ok, I know that the Flowmaster series 40 is a better muffler. I am not really looking to break the bank. I have thought of going duals from the cat back and if I wanted to drop $400 or so I'd go that route. I want t0 do a simple mod that's going to give me a better sound. The stock system is bolted to the flange just after the cats and welded all the way back, in other words, it's all one piece from the cat back to the tail pipe. The exhaust is still sound, no holes or cracks. If the system is that sound, can I just have the shop cut off the original muffler and weld the new one in it's place?

Yes. Buy a muffler you like and just pay the labor to install. Might have to make little section to add to muffler, but make sure you get the same inlet/outlet configuration your current muffler has. Any decent shop can help you.

If you like the sound of the original Flowmaster 40 series, but don't want to spend that much, take a look at these.
