I have never really liked the long antenna on my truck. It's long and always scraps when i put the truck in the garage.
I've look via the internet and there are so many different ones. I'm not picky but i don't wanna get something and have everyone talking about how bad it looks. This may be dumb because after all it's just an antenna...
So i'm just wondering what to do...what to get...should i just keep it the same...
I bought a shorty antenna on ebay.I wanted one that was about 19" but I couldn't find one so I ended up getting a 15" one.It works fine, the reception is good but it would look better if it were a few inches taller.Someday when I have some spare time and a few extra $$ I will probably look for a slightly taller shorty.
Antennas are an approximation of the wavelength of the radio signal, or a fraction of that approximation. So, best bet, reception wise, is to get one that is 1/2 the stock length if you plan to get a shorter antenna.
T removed the antenna, Placed the little ball on top in a vise and removed the antenna rod from the Ball. Then i cut approx. 4" off the antenna so it will not drag on the opened garage door. The little ball can then be tapped back onto the antenna. Good as new

That's what I did after I got my truck last year. I don't suggest cutting off the antenna so that it is shorter than the roof line. If you go through a low clearance your antenna will be your warning that you can't fit. It has saved me a couple of times.
Go with the antenna "delete" model (E-bay) and you have nothing sticking up on your right front fender...looking good. If you only listen to XM, iPOD, CD's and DVD's and MP3 discs like me, who needs an antenna? Commercial AM and FM radio sucks IMHO.
i have cut many antennas short. i always cut them a hair above the roof. done it to my stangs my trucks my grand's mariner. never any reception problems. the muastang was the shortest a little fuzzy on weak fm stations but well worth it. no difference though in the trucks. just a couple inches to get it almost level. and its looks stock. no ugly chrome or anything.
