Hello every one.
I was wondering if any one would know where I can find the stock specs on a 302 engine. Heads, stall rear end.
I'm trying to get help on selecting a new cam but they keep telling me I need to give them this info and I really dont know the numbers to give them.
Can any one give me a hand with this?
Thanks.
First of all, what do you want the engine to do? What do you use it for? Next, go down to your local parts store, and pick up a Chilton manual for your truck. There will be a little tag on your rear end. Use the decoder in the above listed manual to find out what gears you have. iirc, most trucks of this era came with around 750-950 rpm stall converters. If you have a tach, true stall is easy to find. mash the brakes and the gas and see what rpm the engine stalls at. The more power you have, the higher it will stall obviously. If this is just a DD with nothing special. They will probably just give a typical RV grind.

Thanks but.. tag and all markings other then what looks to be casting numbers are gone.
what I want the truck to do is well just have a little more get up and go and make my carb and new HEI come alive.
I was thinking about changing the stall out it is stock to my knowledge its the same come that the truck came with.... I'm not trying to build a racer or any thing fancy, just some thing that will open the engine up more. besides I have a dieing lifter or a cam lope is going out...
