Hello everyone! Another new guy here. I recently purchased a 2006 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab 4x4 with a 5.4 liter V8 and a 6.5 foot long bed. I work in the aviation industry as a FAA licensed aircraft mechanic and I need this truck to haul my tools around to the various airports. I maintain a fleet of 12 General Aviation aircraft for a flight training school here in Dayton. In my spare time, I enjoy working on Warbirds. I have helped to restore some historic warbirds for the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, which is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world. Amoung the aircraft that I have helped to restore for the museum include; a North American RF-86F "Haymaker" (a recon version of the Sabre jet fighter), a Bristol Beaufighter nightfighter, (used by the USAAF in the nightfighter role during WWII as part of Reverse Lend-Lease until the Northrop P-61 Black Widow nightfighters finally arrived and took their place), a Kawanishi N1K2 Shiden Kai "George 21" Japanese WWII fighter (one of only five known to exist in the world) and I helped to restore the main landing gear oleo struts for the famous Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress heavy bomber "Memphis Belle." I got a really great deal on this used Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab truck I recently purchased. The previous owner must have used it to tow their boat. I cleaned out beach sand I found in the engine compartment. They must have had cats because I found cat hair in the interior and scrates in the paint on the hood. I since touched theseareas up with paint and bu=ffed them out. I did a CarFax report before I purched the truck and I discovered the previous owner lived in Pennsylvania and olnly had the truck for 2 years and 4 months. There were no reports of accidents, which is a good thing. After taking it for a test drive at the dealership, I fell in love with it and just had to have it. It came equipped with running boards and a bed liner. Surprizingly, that 5.4 liter engine is not too bad on gas mileage as I was thinking it was going to be. It currently gets around 18 MPG on highway and around 15 MPG in the city. I am still trying to get use to the auto-throttle system Ford uses on this truck. I have worked on a few Ford trucks in the past when I use to work at a Chevrolet dealership as a Service Technician, but I am still learning about the newer Ford trucks. I changed jobs from the automotive industry to the aviation industry because I got tired of working flat rate and the fast paced environment was started to have a negative impact on my health. My current job as an aircraft mechanic is much more laid back. My family has always driven Fords and Chevys. Right now from my experience as a former Service Tech that worked on both Fords and Chevy trucks at a GM dealership, I believe the Ford trucks are much better built than the Chevys are. I find the quality is much better on the Fords than the Chevys currently have IMHO. I been lurking over this site for a couple weeks now. This site has a wealth of information on it along with some very knowlegable people. I am always eager to learn something new about the mechanicals in my truck and to help others. I look forward to reading the posts and talking with everyone here. Jim'06 F-150 XLT 4x4
