This past weekend I needed to move my truck back just a few feet to get something out from the garage. Well I turned the key forward to shift from Park to Neutral. I put the truck back in Park but like a big dummy left the key turned forward. The next morning my batteries were dead. How bad have I messed up?
You just drained the batteries. If they were old and weak you may have drained them down enough that they need replacement. If not you just need to charge them back up.
A completely dead battery(ies) needs special attention. The best thing to do is a slow charge, until they are full. The worst thing you can do is fast charge, or even worse, let your alternator recharge them. Get a 2 Amp charger and let it sit overnight. You should be ok with a 10 amp as well.
The motor turned over one time then it started clicking. I put it on charge for awhile and it fired up. I was worried about the glow plug and fuel pump.

Thanks for the input everyone!
Glow plugs turn off after up to 2 min of key on, fuel pump shuts down after 30 seconds (without starting).
actually the worst thing you did after annoying the batteries is cleared all your DTC codes and reset your PCM, neither of which is harmful at all. Some people reset their computer ALL the time.
