I have finally come to the decision to keep my truck. I had planned on using the truck as a daily driver but the terrible gas mileage has made me reconsider. I will only be using it for hauling purposes. Nothing to heavy just yard waste and trips to the home center kind of stuff. Eventually I would like to convert the engine and trans to a 302 or 351W with an AOD. I want to keep the motor carburated with as little electronic controls as possible. I believe that means I will have to stick with something pre 1987. I was wondering if a motor mount and trans mount change would have to be made. I am sure there is a huge laundry list of things to consider so any and all input would be appreciated. Thanks
Now I may wrong but...you're gonna spend a pretty penny trying to get an AOD to mount with a pre '87 engine. If I were you...I'd take that same money and freshen up your 351M (can do alot with 1500-2000) and maybe invest in an OD kit for right around 2 grand. Especially if you're planning on sticking with carburetion, I really don't think going smaller displacement is gonna make that big of a difference, and if you're just gonna use it to haul you're gonna be glad you have that little extra grunt.
My 85 F150 has a FI 302 and a aod from the factory. Future plans are a Mustang GT 40 Heads, upper and lower intake and a new Computer to help it along the way a little quicker. If he gets a whole donor truck he should be able to swap everything over without problem.
Good catch OTR...sorry for the bad information. My recollection for the production years of the AOD are off apparently. My excuse is I'm doped up on pain meds for my shattered hand.
All right you said you had a FI 302 in a 1985 truck. When did Ford stop using carbs on there trucks? I was under the impression that they switched over to fuel injection in 1987.

They Started in Late 85 for the F150,but the F250,F350 were carb until 87 or 88
