In contrast to the posts above me... if you are that set on running skid plates, I wouldn't run metal. Its waaaaaaay too heavy to cover everything you are going to want to cover.

I think that skid plates are good for stock trucks and people that plan on beating it hard. They work, but we use 1/4" to 3/8" aluminum. The aluminum is light and not as strong as steel so it absorbs hits and usually deforms, mainly scratches and dents. Because it's light, its much easier to take off, so its not to bad to clean, but then again we don't do much muddin. My advise though is that if you're going to a shop do not go in telling them you don't know how to fab and such, they'll try to take advantage if they're a bad shop. any more questions

my 97 came with some skid plates on it (part of the offroad pkg, i still think the offroad pkg should be solid axles but whatever) i havent noticed them really helping anything, havent really hurt anything being there kinda nice under the gas tank i guess but just kind a pita in the long run
