I have a 04 350 and was wondering what everyones opinion is on an exhaust. Is it worht the cash to totally strip out the old one and get a MBRP, or a magnaflo, or are you just as well off ripping out the stock muffler and catalyk converter?
Thats what I am doing I already have the cat out I should have the muffler out this weekend and some day soon I will get a new down pipe. I do not thinf it is worth the money for a half an inch.
It depends on how your doing it. Is the truck totally stock? Planning on putting a tuner anytime down the line? If your going to keep the truck totally stock, then just remove the cat and the muffler, however if your going to put a tuner on your truck then you might want to invest in a slightly bigger exhaust because that bigger exhaust helps with keeping EGTs in check, if you keep the stock exhaust you could keep hitting the upper egt limits and still be in the milder settings.
Regardless of what you do later down the road the larger exhaust will lower EGT's and that is good for your motor and turbo it will help with longevity of the motor. It may give you a bit of an increase in fuel economy or not I got just over 1.5 MPG when I did mine. I went with the 4" turbo back magnaflow cat delete, and a new flow through magnaflow muffler.
Thanks guys, Plan on putting on a tuner in the future, thinking about a bully dog, or this spartan everyones talking about,so might as well go ahead and change er out. Seems weird though that a 1/2" bigger pipe would make that much of a difference.

I my opinion you get the most for your money by just getting rid of the cat because thats free. But if you want to spend the money for bigger pipe thats cool to.

If he was just keeping it stock then the argument could be made for that. However, since he is going with a tuner down the road and if he does do Spartan then he would be spending quite a bit of time doing WOT, the he should do the bigger exhaust.
check out hottexhaust.com I bought my turbo back magnaflow for 289 shipped to my door for my 06. You will spend half that just for the cat delete pipe and muffler.
