IDK about that one man. Maybe I just got a lemon, but considering a lot of people I talk to agree with me, I dont think the bugs ever got completely worked out of the 6.0. I have one right now and it pisses me off to no end to think I was duped into getting rid of my '04 Dodge for this underpowered deisel chugging peice of a 6.0 I have right now.
Where you live must be different than where I live. Around here Dodges around about 3-4K cheaper at sticker than a Ford and close to 6-7K cheaper than a GMC. Saving that much at the sticker is nice because payments are lower and it can be paid off faster if need be. I can take a hit at resale if it means my payments are lower in the first place.
I had a '98 2500 with a 12v 5 speed and it may have been the single greatest truck I have ever owned. If you have a chance to get one you seriously should consider it.
I agree with you. If they didnt have the IFS and car like feel I would buy one. But unfortunately living 10 miles off the hiway on a dirt road is hell on GM front ends, especially in the winter/spring months. Dodges and Fords stand up to the abuse much better. Fords do the best as far as holding up to the wear and tear but the Dodge does pretty good too and has the better workhorse under the hood, therefore Dodge is what I go with.
What makes the Dodge attractive? The fact that its not a Chevy and has Ford whipped in the deisel side of things.
Now that I think of it, instead of recomending a deisel at all I would just go out and buy a F-350 with a V10. Reasons-1. Cheaper at sticker, 2. Cheaper at the pump, 3. Similar performance, 4. Cheaper maintennance.
I'm just curious Bigdaddy what Kind of problems have you had with your 6.0? Cause everybody i know with them likes them and having very little problems. in fact at work i prefer driving them over the 7.3's and ESPECIALLY the 5.9 CTD. everything I've seen with the 6.0 has impressed me so far. maybe I'm too blind loyal or what not maybe you can provide some insight to this.
To the O.P why do you want to change anyways you only have 25K anyways why not ride the warranty out anyway
The diller say that my warranty is 35k.So,is it just for engine or bumper to bumper?
thats just bumper to bumper I'd check I Know for a fact the engine is 100k. but if you go changing stuff up your not going to have one at all if it matters to you

I have had to replace 3 injectors so far (51K miles). Pretty much the only mechanical failures but considering the money I paid for it I think of it as 3 to many. My biggest beef with it is that it gets crappy mileage and doesnt pull anywhere NEAR as well as my '04 5.9 CTD.
I am kind of in a different spot than you and probably the people you know that like their 6.0. I pull a trailer, ALOT, and not a small trailer either. Right around 15 to 16K most of the time, and I pull it long distances the majority of the time. Now, I wouldnt expect ANY truck to get good mileage with that kind of a load but even when I run around with nothing hooked up it only gets about 14.5-15MPG.
Sure it has its benefits vs my '04 Dodge-smoother ride, auto tranny, better sound system. But when put to the test it just doesnt do the job as well. Like you I talked to several people who like the 6.0 and swore it was the best on the market for what I needed to do, so I bought one, I've been pissed ever since.

Like I said, I met some before I bought mine that liked theres, but after I started asking around to see if mine was a lemon the response I got from almost everybody is no.

I like the 7.3 PSD's ALOT. But as far as good deisel motors go in the 1 ton and under trucks the 5.9 CTD is the leader of the pack. They might not come in the best package but they outperform the competition.

To each his own but FYI I dont like my 6.0 AT ALL.

your right to each his own. thats' what makes this country so great.. I was just curious as to why you were bashing the 6.0 that hard.. cause I really like them and was thinking of getting one if/when my 7.3 diesel dies.. I have nothing against the cummins (it's a damn good motor) is just that you have to get a Dodge to get one and as I've explained before the experience that I've had and some people I've talked to experiences with them haven't been that great.. But to be fair none of them have on 07/08 and from what I've read/heard quality has supposed to have gone up alot.. so maybe it might be the best bang for the buck I don't know. too bad you had bad luck with yours I hope its being fixed under warranty as well.. Wish you luck with your truck and hope it doesn't have anymore problems.
For what its worth I have a friend that pulls a trailer around to team ropings all over the US with a 7.3 very similar to yours and his has over 400K on it and is still going strong. If you 7.3 should crap out though I would get another one before going to the 6.0. The 6.0 doesnt have any incentives for it to be a better pick the the old 7.3 PSD.
As much as I like my 7.3, I can see why people would want the 6 liter. The stock hp and torque are very attractive compared to a 7.3, as well as the auto tranny.
I guess that just gives us 7.3 guys a reason to mod lol.
This just in, another reason why not to buy a 6.0 PSD. Took mine into the shop again, the total this time, 4 injectors and a fuel pump. So after 53K lack luster miles I have put 7 injectors and a fuel pump into this diesel guzzling underpowered pig. If it werent for the V10 I would be forced to give up on new Fords altogether. To make matter worse I cant hardly trade it off because the market is saturated with PSD's and I dont get anywhere near the dollar amount I want for it at the dealership. I cant wait until I get right side up enough on my payments that I can go back to driving a Dodge for all my heavy pulling needs.
Have you done your fuel filters at all? Not trying to condescend or anything just looking for reasons for your injector problems, could be your filters are plugged or even that you are getting some low quality fuel in it.

OK,tell me ,please, what is good or best quality fuel for my F350;I mean is it SafeWay diesel,Shell,Chevron or ........??Thanks.
Usually the best bet is to fill up at a high volume station, somewhere that doesn't have the diesel sitting in the tanks for weeks and months at a time, I always make an effort to fill up at the same station every time since I've always had good luck filling up there.

I usually fuel up at a truck stop so I would say that should be high volume enough. I change my fuel filters every 15K miles, I've done so with every diesel pickup I have ever owned.
Injector problems are so common on the 6.0l its not even funny.
My neighbor has an 05' 6.0l SD and I'm amazed it still runs yet. He has no clue how to treat a diesel truck. The things 3 years old and I'd be surprised if it has 6k on it, just sits in the driveway for weeks on end. He will get in it sometimes during the winter morning 20deg F, start it up and go. Comes back 5 minutes later and shuts it off.
I am looking at getting either a new 6.0 or a 5.9 for my next truck. either dodge or ford. im not to thrilled at owning a 6.0 becase of the horro storys but the truck is a ford. dodge on the other hand well... it has a 5.9 common rail cummins.
to each his own. my dad has had a 6.0 liter and no issues at all a tranny recall and a wiring harness recall. no big deal.
I have heard the majority of people who come from a cummins to a PSD and want to go back due to mechanical failures of the injectors or the HPOP. you want your injectors to live longer. you want a bullet proof 6.0 spend some money.
Use synthetic oil change it ever 5k invest in a bypass filter FS-2500 that will keep both your engine and injection system happy. the injectors love clean oil. shop around and get headstuds installed the torque to yield bolts ar junk. any bolt you can't use twice is junk imho. and Plug the EGR valve.
you now own a reliable superduty.
even with all this I want a cummins cause well there easier to work on. and I want to race.
