Idle motors went out with carburetors. The IAC is a control, not a sensor. It raises the engine RPM by causing a vacuum leak. Other vacuum leaks will affect the idle speed too, as will fuel problems and ignition or mechanical problems.

anyway my problem of dying when ac switched on is gone. the only problem im having now is when i start up when cold, it starts then stumbles then dies and ill start it again and it will stumble, so i hold the throttle down until it will idle smooth. pressure is good and iac is new, tps is new and tune up and timing is on. no vacuum leaks, vacuum is 18hg and when reved it drops then goes back to 18hg. seems this start problem is pretty common, by searching posts at least. also seems there isn't a common fix for it, in fact i don't really see a fix listed anywhere in any post. i guess its a problem needing to be fixed by a shop, trial and error, and maybe it fixes itself. i swore id never buy another fuel injected vech. i have two porsches and they each have fuel injection, each is different, mfi and csi or is it cis, i forget, i sold the csi one but the mfi is a keeper. the csi was pretty simple, cold start valve, thermo time switch, air aux valve, pretty easy going after you figure it out and pretty easy to test, but the elec. fuel, hell what a nightmare, mas, tps, iac, abc, def, and so on and so on.
