Rear window.
I just a bought a 78 bronco. the rear window motor runs but only goes down a quarter of an inch then stops. also what does the key hole do on the tail gate cause its not doing anything.i have the inspection plate of the inside of the tailgate and it doesnt look like its hanging up on anything.

Welcome to FTE. The rear window is a very popular subject so you may want to use the search feature above under Forums. In my case, I lubed the tracks attached to the bottom of the glass. Others have found the three plastic parts for the mechanism on the Help rack at the parts house if the motor runs and nothing moves.

Lube the tracks and check to make sure the roller bushings are in good shape. If everything looks good, check the motor and see if the wiring is in order. Also, the key hole on the tailgate should actuate the window. If that's not working, your switch maybe malfunctioning.

If the key switch doesn't work, check the wire that is exposed when the tailgate is put down. It should come out of the left side of the gate and go into the body. After years of flexing, that can break (even though it isn't visible.) Remove the coating on the wire and check to see if its ok. Mine looked ok from the outside, but when I opened it up, it was corroded green and had split in half. A little splicing and I could roll down my window with the key again.
