2004 Nav 63k Mls 4x4 Is Shifting Hard To 3rd Gear Jerks....after Rmps Slighlty Go Higher ....had It Taken To Eagle Trnsmissions And They Want 360 To Take Apart The Transmission To Diag. The Problem. After Hooking It Up They Can't Find Cilinoids Or Other Obvious Problems So They Want To Take It Apart Now For The 360.00 Fee. Should I Take This To A Lincoln Dealer They Are 95.00 Diag Fee And Maybe Better Equipment To Diag.
I would spend the 95 dollars to have the Ford dealer look at it. If they dont find the problem you are only out 95 dollars not 360 and a possibilty of further problems.
i have heard from one transmission shop that i need to take this to a lincoln authorized center because they just screwed up a guys nav transmission....so i call around and find out from several 3rd party repair places that it's not a problem at all and that whoever said that was an idiot. How do i get a tech to answer this ?
If Eagle takes it all apart and then calls you and says it'll be another $4000 to t-r-y and fix it, what are you gonna do?
You have their (free?) opinion (they don't know what (or if?) there is a problem) but they will try and find one for more dollars.
I'd get a second opinion from a Lincoln dealer (do the later model Navi's have the same tranny as the Fords?) who has a reputation of having a good transmission man and see what they have to say. It might be the best $95 you spend.
I believe it would be a big mistake to have the transmission shop disassemble you transmission for a couple reasons. For disassembly is not a dianostic proceedure. Like pdqford said what happens when they say want more money? then your left with no ride and big bill. if you take your ride to a ford or lincoln dealer (either one) they should no exactly how your trans should shift and operate. I would be will to bet that you spend the $95 they should be able to tell you what the problem is not lets tear it down and maybe by some sort of luck if the moon and stars are alined just right we may find a problem. I believe the trans shop is trying to get more money from you. I am sure that if they torn in to it they would recomend rebuilding the trans. Rebuilding something does not always cure the problem. I like to let diagnosing lead me to the problem
