Have seen both water pumps also. I think one is for passenger cars and one is for trucks. The 351 W I installed in an '84 Mustang had the pump inlet on the wrong side compared to a Mustang. When I had the 4 core radiator built I just had 'em switch the radiator openings. A Boss 302 will have the bigger Cleveland canted valve heads and screw in freeze plugs.
Actually the Boss had the heads before the 351C! So it would be better to say the Cleveland had Boss heads.
As for the water pumps, They are interchangable. The one to use would be dependent on wich side the radiator outlet (water pump inlet) is located. From the factory the inlet was on the passenger side until '69. From '70 on, it was on the drivers. On point to be aware of is that the EFI engines use a reverse rotation impeller because of the serpentine belt drive. CAUTION!!! These pumps will also bolt up, however you would need to change to a serpentine belt. If not The efficincy of the pump will go down hill very fast.
Hope this helps.
