Unusual Mods...

Hi Everyone,
I have enjoyed the Ugliest Truck thread which now seems to have run it's course. Although there were some pretty ridiculous creations there I saw some novel ideas in some of the worst. Granted, we have all probably had enough of the ugly part, but it would be interesting to see some of the unique and good stuff people have done. One that comes to mind is IRONDRAGON’S truck with the extended cab. How about you guys posting some pictures of interesting customs and mods? I know I have some ideas that are pretty work intensive for my 53 F-100 as does my son for his. He is thinking of making a four door crew cab with dual rear wheels, 4WD and a diesel. Now that’s a tall order, but don’t write him off. Neither of us are beyond the planning and parts collecting stages so we don’t have pictures. When I start mine I plan on posting an online page with continuous progress updates and pictures as well as the problems I encounter. Until then, I think it would be great to see the far out stuff others are doing.

Hey Kusto,
they can't eat you... You could post the pictures and black out the parts that show the "c" word. I had hoped to see some interesting stuff but so far all I've seen is a great big cookie. C'mon guys, you can do better than that.

Mine is currently torn down and headed in for sand blasting and primer on monday so I 'll some pics when I get it back. Sorry for getting off topic. There are a number of trucks on here that have had some very good modifications done tho and I'm sure they will be along anytime soon.

****I'm having a case of rectal-cranial inversion today and I'm not having any luck attaching pics.......most mods are in my galleries***

Bob,
You give me way too much credit. I don't really know a thing about making modifications, I'm just a complete and total tightwad. I can't even begin to compare with the talent on this board.

Here's a few things I have done;
I made my own tailgate complete with custom hidden spring pin latches and nylon straps

Here's a link to my gallery;
1949 Ford F1 4x2 - Poor-boy Tailgate
I also fabbed my own instrument cluster. This was done for less than $20 buck and was intended to be a temporary fix as I want to eventually install the dash cluster from a 1958 Pontiac.

I had to make my own valve covers for my big 500ci Caddy engine (there's not alot of options for this engine out there.....that I could afford). I took my original valve covers and molded on the tops from early 50's valve covers

I fabricated my own rear crossmember for the bed of my truck. Actually the whole bed is a bit different. I made my own crossmembers, rear sill, bed front, bed floor, and hid the battery below a panel in the bed.
I found some early Chrysler tailights, fitted them with blue dots and reworked them to fit my fenders

The list just goes on and on. I fabricated my own pitman arm, drag link, steering intermediate shaft, pressure hose, and mounted my steering box up in front of the axle.
I made my own radiator/front clip support and installed a Dodge truck radiator
Fabricated my own hanging brake pedal assy. Fabbed my own hard brake lines, fitted rubber brake lines from Oldsmobile and Jeep
Fitted various pieces of trim from a variety of sources...1964 Mercury, 1965 Galaxie 500, mid 60's Pontiac.....
Fuel tank from a mid 80's Blazer...fabbed my own rear crossmembers to support it, marine style filler neck.
6 way power seat from a mid 90 Suburban (freebie)

Currently in the process of assembling the parts to make my big 500ci port fuel injected.

I am facing a bit of a conundrum though. Maybe I'm just getting carried away or something but everytime I start dunking my cookies in my frosty beverages I end up with a beverage full of chocolate chunks and a foamy cookie........

Bobby

Dave,...Be careful here!...you sound as though your leaning to the 'darkside'...LoL,,I've seen the scooby-gator site, and I think your already in.
Does anybody remember who on this site has the twin-cab COE?
Dave ,you could spend days in the archives and galleries, are you looking for anything in particular?..Body? drivetrain?
