checking enginre temp.

The temp guage on my 351W is reading below normal all the time. It'll move around but always below normal. It's an idiot's guage by the way. I don't know if it's the sending unit, the guage or if it's actually running cold. It feels hot. The thermostat is new and I'd like to first find out what actual temp it's running at then go from there. How can I do this? Any products?
