Fuel tank rust

Kodakgallery.com*Browse Photos

Here is some pictures of my fuel and fuel filter. The filters have 3500 miles on them. Truck was running a little low on power on the way to work so I changed them when I got to work. I noticed every time I have changed them there seems to be rust from the fuel tank and this has been happening way before I started using biodiesel. Anyone ever had this rust problem? So I am thinking it's time to replace the stock fuel tank. Any suggestions or experiences on brands? Or would I be better off getting a new stock one? I am thinking I better do this sooner than later. I also need it to be compatable with biodiesel.

I have an 05 crewcab and my fuel tank is plastic. Unless the supercab is different I think you have gotten some bad fuel. Bio will gell in cold temps but I don't think your tank is the problem. I think it's whats in the tank.

You're right it is a plastic tank. I used a magnet to see if it was metal and it did not stick. Now I just wonder how long it will take to get rid of the contamination. Since I am using b100 now that the weather is a bit warmer maybe it will clean the tank out with a few tank fulls. I noticed the contamination before using bio so it might be from bad fuel I got way back when.
Is there a way to flush out our fuel tanks with out removing the tank?

Not that I know of. If I were you I would definitely keep a spare set of filters and the tools to change them in your truck until this does clear up. Good luck with it.

Thanks. I always keep a spare filter and tools in the tool box. It is a necessity when running biodiesel.
