ANYBODY CARE TO , COMPARE MPG BETWEEN 01 SUPERCREW/5.4
AN A 03 SUPERCREW/4.6. LIKE EITHER BUT DO NEED MPG , IS TH 5.4 THAT MUCH DIFFERENT THAN 4.6 IN MPG. ANYBODY GOT SOME NUMBERS?
I have an '01 SCrew and consistently stay above 15mpg no matter what. I've had it 4 months and never been under 15 even in the mountains - if you want to call the bumps on the east mountains. I typically get 16 in my rural driving and have gotten as much as 18.25mpg on the flat highways of Florida. I seldom go over 70mph consistently, generally trying to stay about 68mph.
My cruise doesn't work until they get in the switches, so I think it might improve a little since it is really hard to keep it at a sustained speed on the highway.
I have a Diablo tune in it and all filters, plugs, etc are new and clean. And I run premium gas.
my 2001 SC 4 x 4 , 5.4 L gets about the same as mj. Normally 1.5 mpg. Got 17.5 couple times in the summer, constant highway speed. Pulling a 4000 pound trailer its in the 12 range.
The 5.4L gets pretty much the same mpg that the 4.6L gets. The reason for this is that even though the 4.6L is a smaller engine, it has to worker harder than does the 5.4L.
Personally, if you do any towing I wouldnt settle for anything less than a 5.4L.
The 4.6L is a good engine, but for doing any kind of heavy hauling or towing it lacks the grunt that the 5.4L has.
Besides, they both get the same fuel milage, so why not go for the engine with more power?
