well the last time i worked mine hard we had to take the reciver out of the back end, it was touching the ground, we put a lot of wet wood in the back. the tires didnt like it much but nothing broke.
I scaled in at 24,500 with a gooseneck trailer once, usually not quite that heavy, but it did it. I didn't realize it was that heavy until I hit the scale, wow!
The most I ever pulled was my 5000 lb gooseneck with a 12,800 lb tractor on it.I would have been a little over 26,000 lbs total weight.I only went 8 miles.
I haven't really pushed it that hard yet. I have squeezed the carped under the go pedal a few times, but thats not something I worry about. Even hauling at full power up 5-10% grades the EGTs rarely go past 1000F.
For towing, I don't move that much weight but what I do move is usually at 70 MPH, but again thats well within the limits. The most I ever moved was probably 5000lbs. Our boat probably weighs less than 3000lbs.
I figger with all Ive read on this forum as log as I dont go over 1200deg. egt I would be ok...I think they like to be pushed hard, some rigs seem to last better with that and good maint. (that seem right???) tell me if Im wrong...
I think you are right. Letting these engines stretch their legs so to speak every now and then seems to be a good way to blow carbon buildup out of the engine. As long as you don't go nuts, and hit the rev limiter every 5 min everyday, I think it will do no harm to the engine. If it wasn't for my occasional lead foot, my EGTs would never go past 650.
Good maintenance will always give the engine the best chance it has.
Best my truck ever ran since I got it was after I climbed a mountain pass with 5000 lbs on the trailer, 1st gear, steeeep grade, 3200 rpm, EGT 1150, ran like a charm with lots of power after that run, got rid of a lot of restricting carbon I think!!
Towing 24,000 gross
In the bed, 10,500 pounds of wet .75" crusher run yesterday.
Beat my old record of 9,200 pounds of #57 stone that looked like this.
Unfortunately due to the cut in OT and rais freez at work I can't aford to work mine, though it wouldn't be too much wieght just my jeep 1,500lbs maybe a bit more. Went with diesel for mpg while towing now cant aford to register my jeep or take it any where
Well, mine wont look as tough as Dave S. or you other guys, but I have a pic in my main gallery that shows a load of scrap I'm going to take to the yard this week. That and a small cattle trailer, about 5-6k loaded, is all the harder mine works.
Shameful huh? lol
Now with fuel at $4.25, the hoss sits in the barn more than I want it to.
I dont work mine that hard just an old 17' camp trailer-A ton of alfalfa(for the wifes horses) the drive to work-and racing the little kids in the cars/trucks. tho. I do push it hard.
