I was wondering if the 351w was a good motor for low end torque. I dont think that it has a very long stroke, so foes this mean it wont have any low end.
thanks

I am going to be swapping out my old 300 six. I am trying to decide between a windsor or a clevland. I would like for the motor to have a lot of get up and go off the bottom end. Also, could anyone tell me what I am going to have to change in this swap, I know that the motor will bolt up to my bellhousing but what other changes are going to be involved?
Thanks

Yep, real good low-end motor, but not as good as the 300 I6. I have a graph that I made on computer, and it is basically a combination of the 300,302 and 351 together. The 300 has probably 15ft/lbs torque at idle more than the 351.
I had a 300-6 EFI in mine and swapped to a carbed 351W and the 300-6 couldn't hold a candle to the power of the 351W under any circumstances. The 300-6 is a good engine and will practically run forever, but it ain't got the power of the 351W.

Could you tell me what all you had to change in doing your swap to the windsor? I am going to be doing the same swap except my six is carbureted.
thanks

You didn't specify what year your truck is ('86 maybe?) so I'll tell ya what you'll need for an 80 on up. From a 351W (or 302?) equipped donor vehicle you'll need: engine perches-2 or 4WD should work and radiator. I got my engine intact with all accessories and that is a big help considering the myriad combination of accessories, timing covers and oil pans over the years with this engine. You'll need a rear sump oil pan. Lots of other little odds and ends you'll need but these are the big items. There is a wealth of info in the archives on this subject. Good Luck
