Can any of you tell me how far the front bumper sticks out past the gravel pan on a 53-56,

From the gravel pan face to the front bumper face is about 5-1/4" on my stock 55.

My friend I thank you, that's what I needed to know. I have to weld on the frame horns because of the frame swap I did, thanks again.

56, now is a good time to "tuck it in" by 1.5" or so. Lot o guys cut good horns off to do just that. Just a thought but not an important mod.

CIAF, actually that is what I have in mind, I was trying to determine how much I wanted to go from stock, and do I have to trim any of the bracketry that holds the bumper to the frame. I was also wondering if there was another bumper from another vehicle that I might be able to use without spoiling the good looks of the front end

I'm with CIAF on this. I'd tuck the bumper in. For personal liking, I think the stock bumper sits out too far from the gravel pan. As for other bumpers, I've seen people use the 50 Ford bumper which wraps around the front end. You'll have fabricate some brackets for mounting another bumper though.
