Hi all, I just became the new owner of 1953 F100.
that is the exciting part, the truck however doesn,'t have the original grille.
I want to locate a stock grille that can be chromed to install in it.
I see that 56 grilles are being reproduced and was wondering if I could use a 56 if a 53 doesn't appear.
Thanks in advance for any info!
Brian
Welcome aboard, you can indeed use a 56 grill but you will need to switch to 56 air deflector panels or modify yours to allow for the deeper inset headlights. Also 56 used different parking lights/turn signals in front that mount to the grill so you would need those as well. Keep your eye on ebay as the 53 grills pop up every now and then. I actually saw one at a swap meet this weekend newly chromed with the optional grill teeth for $275 so they are out there.
they aren't easy to find at least for me . i wanted to chrome the grille in mine { 53 } but got sticker shock . if they dont have to make repairs to the grill 1400 big uns !!!!!!!!!!!!!! a painted grille looks real good now .
Welcome aboard Brian. You can count on many people here to give you advice and some will offer you to the darkside! Watch out for them! LOL well anyways what are you looking for a grill to chrome or just a 53 grill painted? Let me know, for i have one that i could part with. I was going to bring it to a swap meet this weekend. PM me if you wish. Thanks Roger
This site is like the Movie "Groundhog Day" sometimes. Didn't we just have pages of the 53 Vs 56 grille and the "I love the 54 grille/hate the 54 grille" conversation.....?
If anyone remembers where that post is, if it's in your subscriptions yo ucould put the link on a reply here! There was a lot of good into as I recall.
Welcome to the board! I found a very nice 53 grille on ebay sometime ago and bought it just because they are so hard to find. The local chrome shop wanted about $350 to plate it. Keep your eye open, if you're not in a hurry a nice one will pop up.
