I am in the middle of a ball joint/U-joint change on the right front side of my truck.
So far so good, got everything apart exept inner U-joint of the drive axle. Do I have to open the diff. to get the axle out? Or is there another way.?
??
Was able to change it where it was.
Tried to slide it off, would not come.
It is 2 in the morning here now, only to assemble the hub and brakes tomorrow. It went pretty good.
The worst part is to get started.............
Thanks
You only need to open the diff for the front left side...... unless you replace the universal in place. Front right shaft should have popped out if you pulled it hard enough.
I changed left side last year, that one popped out no problem. Only one universal on that side.
Now I changed right side, outer universal no problem but the inner one I had to change in place.
Just had a test drive, nice and tight
Thanks
Its been so long since I've seen one, my memory is hazy.
The RH axle has a slip joint in it with a rubber boot and clamp. You can remove the clamp and slide the outer 1/2 out, but the rest of it is held in the differential by the clip.
The inner joint seems to last forever. Its the outer steering joints that take the most abuse.
