pollution stuff

Hi, I have a question about an 88 F 150 with a 5.0L engine. I know this is a six forum but I figure you guys are Ford guys all around. My Ford has a tube that runs across the back of the heads with a vacuum control of some kind. There is a short rubber piece of heater hose that looks like at one time went to the exhaust pipe. This has long since been removed and the hose left open. Can anyone tell me what this is for? I assume the hose should at the very least be plugged as it is hooked to a vacuum control. Also what effect if any would this have on the engine/computer? Thanks in advance.

That tube is connected to your thermactor system and goes to the thermactor passages in your heads.

It forces clean air from the air pump into the exhaust ports on the cylinder heads. The other line sends air into your exhaust system.

I don't think it will make much difference on how your truck runs, performance wise, but you should plug the tube so no road debris gets in there.

Basically it will make a difference for emmissions, but not for drivability.

OK, Good. I didnt think it could send a code as there is no electrical connection anywhere. Would that mean the air pump could be disconnected?
