Do EFI 460s have flat tappets?
I had an on going conversation with a buddy who has a older '89 460 motorhome on a F-53 chassis. I have a '94 EFI 460 motorhome on a F-53 chassis.
He says I dont have to run the delo 15-40 because the 460 EFIs have roller cams and high zddp is not needed.
Is this true?
Thanks.
well the added zinc is mainly for when it's being broke in. But to answer your main question yes you have flat tappets, the 460s never had roller cams from the factory.
basically run whatever oil makes you feel confortable, you dont NEED the diesel oil but it's also not hurting you.
I am new to the Ford 460 and thought the high Zddp was needed all the time in heavy towing situations.
I honestly like Castrol GTX 10-30 and have used it for twenty years but the Zddp is only around 700 in the SM rating and since the motorhome is 36' long and towing a 3000 lbs car through the Cascades quite regularly I was concerned.
