Which flywheel should I put on my 351W to put in my truck?
I am using an 84 block that came from a Grand Marquis that had an AOD but I have heard that AOD's use a different flywheel than the C6. I have a flywheel from a 75, will it work? 351W's always used the same balance, unlike the 302, right?
1979 F150 Custom: nothing under the hood at all (again)
1987 F150 XLT Lariat: 88 351W EFI
84 351W: soon to have 91 heads, Crane PowerMax cam, double roller timing chain, Edelbrock Performer intake & Holley carb and be put back in 79 F150
86 & 87 Bronco II: next winter's beater
Can anyone help me on this? I'm putting the engine in the truck Monday and I would like to know which flywheel I need to use.

I THINK the only diff in the flex plates would be # of teeth. I would call your Ford parts guy and ask. FYI the C-4 and AOD flexplates were interchangeable for me.
Thanks. I don't know if there would be any problems mounting a C6 to an AOD flywheel but I have heard of some major problems mounting an AOD to a C6 flywheel.

I agree that all the 351's have the same flexplate specs.
I just rescently put an AOD 164 tooth 28oz flexplate on my 1971 351c with a C-6 and have no problems. Here's a little more info though....
69-80 (C-6) 302,351c,351w-164 tooth ring gear 11-7/16 (28 oz)
82-95 AOD 302 with 164 tooth ring gear 11.4 b.c. (50 oz)
You should have no problems, stay away from the 50oz weights, stick to the 28oz weights.
