Which flywheel for an AOD
I am putting an AOD behind a 69 302 and I was wondering which flywheel I need. Ford switched from a 28 ounce flywheel to a 50 ounce flywheel in 1980. The AOD came out in 1979 so does that mean that I can only use a 79 AOD flywheel to get a 28 ounce one or did Ford make later model 28 ounce flywheels.

Flywheels are for clutches. You want the flex-plate for the engine you're using, not the tranny. Get one with 28 oz imbalance. Also I believe the switch to 50 oz was 81/82. You can also buy aftermarket flexplates for your setup.
Watch out for flexplate size. Depends on bellhousing used. I think you'll want one that is 14 1/4" across. There is a 13 1/4" also. Think the teeth are 164/157 respectively. I found both when I put a 73 302 in an 82 'stang.

You do want an AOD specific flexplate, apparently using a C6 flexplate will destroy the AOD front pump. I have heard of people using C4 flexplates, but just keep your eyes open and get the proper AOD flexplate. You will want the 28 oz flexplate which was on 81 & prior 302, or any year 351W.
