1964 block, solid or hyd. lifters???

would i have solid or hydraulic lifters in my 1964 fe?


which is better? in your opinion. pros vs. cons

Depends on which engine you have. Most had hydraulic but a number of the high performance motors had mechanical.

By '64 only 427s had solids.

Hydraulics are better. Even if you are going to rev it to 6500, you can use hydraulics. (because if you were going to rev it to that, you'd be rebuilding the engine with lots of shiney new parts....)

No adjustment required once it's set up correctly.

1964/65 Galaxie Police Cruisers; 1966/69 Fairlane/Torino/Montego; 1967/69 Mustang/Cougar HiPo's have adjustable rocker arms (B8A-6564-B) and solid lifters (C4AZ-6500-B).

1966 Galaxie Police Cruisers have solid lifters and adjustable rocker arms. Same part numbers as above.

well mine is an ex 390 that appears to be converted to a 410, so my guess is hydraulic.

I just like the "tic-tic" of solids. Everything I got has solids in it.

well my engine does tick, and somone swapped a 428 crank im there, maybe sombody converted it,

is there any way to tell without major dissassembly?

If you have non adjustable rockers it's a hyd lifter engine.
