Kinda sad day

I'm tearing my 69 F250 apart. It's been a good truck for four years now, but it's time to move on. It's been a hauling rig for the last two years, has been having severe transmission problems for almost three years now, and while it has decent paint over the dents and other body damage, underneath is all rust- Bed floor, cab mounts, underside of cowl, etc.
All is not lost, though, since it's replacement is coming along nicely. The 72 is getting the grill and a few trim pieces off the 69, along with the frame-mounted trailer hitch, brake controller, wiring, etc.
I guess the spirit of the 69 will live on in this new truck. At least it's a more solid starting point.

It is sad when that happens, but at least you salvaged it and re-used as much as you could. Glad to hear that you drive it and use it. I daily drive mine, there is nothing more satisfying than driving your baby everyday.

FINALLY got the grill off this thing- I guess Ford knew they would be worth a crapload of money in the future, so they hid about half the bolts inside fenderwells, behind the headlight doors, and other fun places like that.

Tell me about it! I was perusing one of the local wrecking yards last summer with fastmover and we came across a '70 with perfect grill shell. He had to have it so we pulled it off. Only problem was that the truck was sitting in the direct sun, it was about 105º that day (in the shade) and there were nasty, sticky weeds growing all around the front of the truck. And of course it was jammed right in against other trucks making the working space rather limited. Not my idea of a fun way to pull a grille! I kept expecting a monster Black Widow to be lurking up inside the wheel wells, or to make a close aquaintance with a rattler hiding from the sun under the truck...

Wrecking yard

I love getting stuff out of the wrecking yards. Most of them in my area won't allow the public to peruse the yard, it is a bummer. Stupid people have ruined it for the rest of us weird people that like looking at old junk...........

Stupidity should be illegal...........

The yard closest to me even lets me drive in with my tools in the back of the truck if I've got to pull anything large or heavy or need to haul lots of tools with me. (It helps to know the owner!)

The local yards here have cleared out. There used to be a few of these trucks in the two closest yards, but they decided they wanted money instead.
Finished pulling all the major stuff today, like the instrument panel, glove box liner and door, steering wheel with horn ring, rear bumper and frame mounted hitch. I'm going to strengthen the hitch and put it on the new truck this week. It started out as a Valley 2" receiver on my 84 F250, but I modified it to fit inside the frame of the 69. It could be a lot stronger than it was, not that I was worried about it, but it'll be nice to have the extra security, especially having a 360 and 4speed instead of a 300-6/auto setup.
Next step is to get one of my 4BBL intakes mounted on the old FE, see if I can get the damn thing to stop burning oil without having to replace the rings, and get the new master and booster installed so it'll actually stop, maybe even without stalling the engine in the process.
