Noticed a miss in my 66 240 engine. Pulled the wire off #1 cylinder, and it made no difference. Fire is going to the plug. I swapped plugs and wires, but the miss remained with the #1 cylinder. Compression is 110, and vacuum is 19 with a slight jitter; less than 1. I am kind of at a loss here. Any ideas?
Unless you have the tool,
Poor boy leak down: Rotate it to TDC (compression stroke) # 1, remove the petcock from your compression tester's hose, and remove the gauge. Screw the fitting in the spark plug hole, connect an airline to the gauge end with about 80lb pressure. Listen for air leaks (exhaust pipe, carb, crankcase, radiator) maybe a sticky valve causing bleed off? Which wont be likely to show with the test as the engine is dormant.
I will pull the valve cover off and check my valve movement. Seems like something should show on compression/vacuum checks, but maybe I am thinking wrong. Thanks
