hello and thanks for lookin i bought a 302 v8 it has a egr valve and 2 brl carb but iam trying to find the exact year of this engine anybody help? thank you
Where is the dipstick? if it is in the timing cover it is pre 77 if it is in the oil pan on the drivers side the it is 77 on up. for more definate then you will need the casting codes.
The D8 stands for 1978. The V after that is what kind of car but my book for that is packed away in a box 'cause were getting ready to move. I know T stands for truck and I think Z is for mustang. The rest of the numbers are just for identifying various other things like any special parts and maybe some more date codes. The only thing that seems to be goofy with the late 70's 302's is that I started to notice between 70,000 and 80,000 stock miles on them the rod bearings seem to go to crap. We have had a lot of 77-79 T-birds and if the engine wasn't re-built around 70,000 miles it would seem to blow up. But and old 302 is still a 302, so if nothing is broken inside and emmisions is not a worry than it still has some potential. The 302 in my ranger is a rebuilt one out of my brothers old 79 T-bird and I beat the living crud out of it and it still takes a good beating while running fine. I better knock on the desk now!
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
