Hi,
I have a 2000 F150 4x4 extended cab. I bought the truck used in May of 2001 with 28,000 miles on it. It now has 34,000 miles on it and I am finding the paint is peeling and the truck is rusting in 3 spots. The first is in the inside bottom of the doors. The second is the inside bottom of the tailgate and finally the last spot is below the window molding on the drivers door. It goes in tomorrow to get those areas repainted from the dealer but after I hit 36,000 miles I am on my own.
The truck is garage kept and is washed every weekend. The original owner bought the truck in Jan 2000 so it is a year and a half old. I am very disappointed in this. The other vechiles I have owned haven't rusted within the 5 years I keep them. Is this normal or is there a problem? Thanks for your help.
Document the problem, get the dealer to give you a note about it, and it is then regarded as a problem that occurred before the warranty ran out. It is not normal for your truck to be rusting, there is a problem with the paint. Get the dealere to inspect the entire truck, and do so yourself, so yu can get all of it repaired. My '96 will not fit in a garage, and has spent every day outside, and has no rust on the body work.
